Summary:
During the approach to land from a visual circuit the pilot forgot to lower the landing gear and forgot to check for three green ‘landing gear down and locked’ lights on final approach. Seconds before touchdown, the airfield radio operator noticed that the aircraft’s landing gear was retracted and made a “Go Round” call over the radio. The pilot believed that the “Go Round” call from the radio operator did not apply to his aircraft, and because the runway was clear he proceeded with the landing. The aircraft touched down gently on its belly, slid across the grass surface, and then left the runway to the right before coming to rest. The pilot and his passenger were able to exit the aircraft normally.
